Glenn Todd: Bindarri – creating an online community publishing platform using buddypress

It’s my pleasure to announce our next speaker, Glenn Todd. Glenn is a regular at our WordPress Meetups here in Melbourne.

He has been working as a web designer under the brand www.dvize.com for 11 years providing services commercially as well as to community groups and activist campaigns.  His early work utilised hand coded html and flash. Starting with the CMS Plone, then Drupal, in early 2009 he moved to WordPress as his preferred website framework. Glenn is the founder of www.bindarri.com.au and in February is launching the collaborative website development project: Garden.

Glenn will be discussing the Bindarri website redevelopment, which is focusing on building the community of contributors to the blog, online magazine and directory, while increasing the distribution of the content via social media.

Glenn’s presentation will include the strategy and he will also give a tour of the open source tools used to build the community framework such as WordPress, BuddyPress, plugins and integration of external websites. www.bindarri.com.au

Glenn will also briefly discuss the Garden Project (launching in Feb) where we will be collaboratively building the websites and organisational management tools of www.beyondzeroemissions.org, www.foe.org.au, hubmelbourne.com and bindarri.com.au. We will be running code sprints, skill shares and training.

As is tradition, I’ve asked Glenn a few questions about WordCamp!

What are you most looking forward to at WordCamp?

Learning some new tricks, meeting fellow WP heads and hopefully working with my new friends on a live WordCamp project.

What do you love most about WordPress?

  • Easy for end users (and me) to produce, manage and distribute content
  • Open and Free
  • Quick and easy to deploy, upgrade and manage
  • Powerful and extendable framework
  • Clever and active community
  • Templating system that has no restrictions on webdesign
  • Google loves it too.

What is your favourite thing about Melbourne?

I can ride to everywhere that I need to be.

If you’re interested in seeing what Glenn has to say about WordPress and Bindarri, then please register for WordCamp Melbourne. We’d love to see you there!
